Dear Caroline & Michael
Hillfield is a slice of heaven in South Devon. With a traditional village feel, the beautiful self-catering cottages and apartments come with travel cots, highchairs and stair gates. There’s an outdoor play area, tennis courts and a small shop, too. We stayed in Vantage Point, which had its own flat-screen TV, hot tub and sauna. Most people had children, so Sophie and Toby made lots of friends. We even threw a hot tub party on the last night. Our two loved Woodlands, the fantastic theme park, just down the road. There’s loads of slides, play zones and a farm. Talk to Hillfield’s friendly owners Caroline and Michael about a discount on the entry fee. For free days out we took picnics to the beautiful beaches a few miles down the road.”

Absolutely superb accommodation with all the facilities for a memorable stay. With added extras of the hot tub, sauna-wow! We will recommend to our family and friends and hope to return one day. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside (November 12th) at the Sea Breeze café at Torcross. Excellent for a lunch break food choice and the service was very good.

We really did enjoy our stay at Hillfield, Valley View, was ideal for us- all our family thought so too. You are both doing a great job in your development. You were both very welcoming and helpful. The location is very good, it's so easy to get into Dartmouth and to get to the lovely places to visit in the vicinity. We liked the Anchor Stone Café by the ferry at Dittisham. Also Rock Fish was excellent for the family, good pedigree in Mitch Tonks. Everywhere we went (and eat) was nice. The children went to the Sloop Inn at Bantham, after the beach there.

It is very rare to find such high quality accommodation coupled with personal, friendly and highly efficient service. Guests lack for nothing here. Well done to Caroline & Michael, you have something very special here! The Dart Rock climbing at Buckfastleigh and the Ski centre at Plymouth were both excellent. Rock Fish as always and Kendrick’s restaurant provided great food in a fun environment. Give Plymouth a big miss! A fantastic few days at Hillfield.

We really appreciated the cottage being cleaned, towels and linen being changed half way through our stay. I think you should mention this service on your website as it’s a big plus. We have loved coming here again-a year to the day since our first visit. Immaculate facilities, child friendly accommodation, a warm welcome and masses to do in the area means we are already discussing a third visit!

The Juliet apartment was comfortable and really well appointed. Loved the memory foam bed! We will have to get ourselves one of these. Bathroom was very luxurious too. Well done. We would love to come back again soon. The Round Robin boat trip was excellent with a very amusing commentary from the crew. If you take this trip avoid staying to long in Paignton. One hour is more than enough. The train journey was a lovely bit of nostalgia. Paignton Zoo was superb and gets better every time we visit.

The Seven Stars at Totnes was excellent for Sunday lunch. Three courses for £14.95. Lily’s at Paignton had a superb choice of food ranging from a slice of toast to three course specials. The Swan Inn at Noss Mayo provided lovely home made meat pies (a dish full of steak with a pastry lid) The Queens Arms at Slapton….good old fashion pub grub. The Rocket Café for home made soup and cream teas. The Rockfish…… very fresh fish, probably the best in the area. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is excellent. So quiet, private despite being close to neighbours. You’ve provided every practical detail that has made it so easy for us. And the cleaning has been excellent. What a difference that makes on arrival! In particular we enjoyed Riverford Field Kitchen for great food and service. South Moulton Sands is a great beach for rock pools, shallow bay and small single- good for younger kids and quite sheltered. Easy to reach from National Trust car park.

Hillfield is set in peaceful surroundings, friendly staff and a very enjoyable stay. Ideally situated for visiting the many attractions in South Devon. DVD’s, body boards, crab nets and bucket and spades- all available to borrow, and the bottle of wine on arrival all thoughtful little extras that made for a wonderful holiday. Definitely recommended. Canoe Adventures from Tuckenhay. Phil who runs it was informative on the trip. He organised the children with fire building at our picnic stop and even provided marshmallows and cups of tea and hot chocolate! Fantastic experience and well worth the money.

This was our first visit staying in Juliet Apartment, which was only a long weekend that went far too quickly. It was a perfect place for a short, quiet, relaxing break for the two of us and the accommodation was excellent in every way. It was, in a word, luxurious and immaculately presented with everything possible supplied to self-cater. We can’t wait to come back. We would recommend the Singing Kettle tea rooms in Dartmouth, The Floating Bridge, and the Station Restaurant both in Dartmouth and the Church House Inn at Stokenham.

(Juliet Apartment) 8th August
This is just to thank you once again for a lovely short break/long weekend at Hillfield Cottages when we stayed in your beautiful Juliet Apartment. We were very impressed with everything and were very sad to leave when our time with you went by far too quickly. Our first experience of self-catering as a couple, without any of our family, was more than we could ever have imagined or hoped for and we can’t wait to come back again as soon as we can. We know and love Dartmouth and all the surrounding parts of this area of Devon and your cottages are set in such a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing area, they are perfect for us to escape from our demanding family commitments. We enjoyed a wonderful cooked breakfast at the Singing Kettle on the morning we left Hillfield and we can’t recommend them enough for the quality, value for money, delightful surroundings and friendly staff/owners.

Great location. The children loved the play area and met lots of other children. We enjoyed the Devon Wildlife Centre (formerly Prickly Ball Farm) and Woodlands theme park. The accommodation in Court Cottage 3 definitely lived up to expectations and was like a home from home with en-suite bedrooms. It was great to have the stair gate, Cot and high chair available. The grounds are also very pretty and our daughter enjoyed playing on the slides and swings. The Miniature Pony Centre near Morton Hampstead was a great day out especially for families with small children like us. Well worth the drive. Dartmouth Castle was also an interesting visit. The Seabreeze Café in Torcross is not very baby/small child friendly and expensive.

As comfortable and welcoming as ever. Thank you for a very relaxing holiday. We’ll be back as soon as we can. The Ship Inn at Noss Mayo- wide selection of high quality food. We have had a very enjoyable stay. The properties are very well equipped; you seem to have thought of everything. Lovely and very well kept grounds. We had an enjoyable day at Blackpool Sands- very clean and well run. Great place for a family holiday. First class accommodation, attention to detail superb. Simple things in Court Cottage made our stay a superb one:- tennis court, play area, provision of dishwasher tablets, shower gel, cloths, extra toilet rolls etc. We loved the end of our first week clean-up and fresh bedding for the next. We had lovely meals in the Sportsman’s Arms and a great play area. The Rock Fish was lovely too. We took a taxi boat over to Resnova (floating restaurant) in the evening for drinks with the kids-very nice experience.

We have had a lovely stay. Keepers Cottage was ideal for us and had everything we needed. Owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Ideal location for walking and lots to see and do. Cottages & estate beautifully maintained. Ashamed to say we mainly used Sainsbury’s which was very convenient. We were disappointed with our meal at the Laughing Monk which did not live up to expectations and was a little expensive given our experience.

Fabulous location and great facilities. Staff friendly and unobtrusive. Accommodation superb! We particularly enjoyed our day at Pennywell Farm. Highly recommended as a great destination for young children.

(Court Cottage) 2nd July
Excellent. All enjoyed the stay. We made our booking on the recommendations and will be happy to also recommend Hillfields. We are sure we will be back.
The Church House in at Harberton. Very good food for adults and children. The Rockfish, beautifully cooked fish. And the Start Bay Inn well cooked food but the seating arrangement is chaotic.

Michael & Caroline made us feel very welcome-as always. This is the first time we have stayed in an apartment rather than a cottage and it was just as comfortable and well equipped. Many thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

Beautiful location. Excellent accommodation, with very well thought out appliances, utensils etc. A very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We will definitely recommend and return. Lovely large field with play area for toddlers. Fellow holiday families and everyone working here very friendly. We enjoyed a Harbour cruise and visited the castle and grounds & Blackpool Sands beach. Everybody is just lovely and the service is great. So relaxed!

Immaculate, well thought out and so pleased to see all the eco-friendly features (one of the reasons we booked). We will recommend to everyone we know. We love it! The Dart Café in Dartmouth was lovely they serve amazing scones the size of a small house! Dartmouth Castle was fantastic.

Great Location. Beautiful grounds-well laid out. Friendly staff and owners. Cottage had everything that was needed and well designed. We hope to be back soon one day! We would recommend the Severn Stars in Kingsbridge. It is newly renovated, kids eat free, excellent food, Also the Boat House at Torcross. Big portions, keen prices, family friendly and great views. The Rock Fish in Dartmouth, high class fish and chips, delicious and family friendly. Woodlands- great park for out two year old. If you are staying for 10 days or more then buy the ‘return for free’ ticket.

Accommodation very well appointed and everything available for self catering. Well placed to visit numerous attractions in the area. Close to Sainsburys and the Park & Ride into Dartmouth. We will definitely come again. Caroline & Michael were very welcoming. We enjoyed the ‘Resnova’ boat on the river Dart for a lovely meal and the Start Bay Inn at Torcross Slapton for the best fish and chips ever, and the Church House Inn at Stokenham.

What a delightful welcome at Hillfields. Nothing is ever too much trouble or can’t be quickly sorted. We will keep some very happy memories of this week-tennis swimming and especially the hot tub. Thank you for all your work here. Pennywell farm was a very enjoyable day out and our 7 & 9 year olds enjoyed the House of Marbles. A good morning trip for free, but need to combine it with something else. The National Park authority information centre on Haytor was really good too.

(Keepers Lodge) 3rd June.
Great location! Modern, clean cottage with everything we needed. The children’s facilities were great. We even had a dip in the pool. Overall, really impressed with the high standards. We had a fabulous meal twice at Pier Point Torquay. We also had a disappointing meal at Dartmouth Golf Club.

We had a lovely time here. Can’t believe how quiet it is! Dartmouth is nicer than I thought it would be. For a family of four staying in the Coachman’s cottage the extra bedroom was ideal. Especially when you have small children. We would definitely recommend Hillfields to friends.

(Keepers Cottage) 17th June.
Hillfields is set in a wonderful location with beautiful views and facilities and the cottage was second to none. The Singing Kettle- Wonderful traditional tearooms and the Forces Tavern- unexpected pleasure to eat there and spotless. Disapointed in the Sportsman’s Arms, The food was poor and standards were low.

(Court Cottage) 17th June
This our 3rd year at Hillfields and again we have really enjoyed our stay. The facilities here are wonderful and really suit our needs. We enjoyed fish and chips from the Rock Fish in Dartmouth.

Excellent well equipped accommodation as usual. Gifts for Gentlemen in Dartmouth is great for presents. The Laughing Monk restaurant in Strete provided excellent food. Start Bay Inn at Torcross, Slapton for the best fish and chips and excellent service at Dartmouth Golf Club.

(Court Cottage) 18th June
Garden Apartment is lovely with a sublime view. Excellent facilities for young families. You have thought a great deal about the little extra touches. We enjoyed our 1 hour boat trip and also our separate boat, train ride journey. The highlight was seeing a seal in the water. Swimming at the golf club was expensive considering that a couple of features were being fixed by workmen while we were there.
Mr Tresham
(Garden Apartment) 18th June
Outstanding accommodation and services on site. The playground was excellent. Vantage Point is spacious, well designed and equipped and great value for money. And very child friendly. We would recommend Moby Nicks for cooking and supplying 4 large Lobsters fresh and on time. Also the check out lady at M&S who directed us to find an item that was better than what M&S sold! Also Tozers for going to look for 60 candles for us! (Our local shops do go that extra mile to be helpful. Caroline) we had great food at RB’s and the Rock Fish.
Russel & Elizabeth Griggs, Rob, Angela and Tomas Sewell.
(Vantage Point) 19th June
We had a very enjoyable relaxing stay. Everything you need is at hand. Well equipped, beds comfortable and lovely surrounding gardens. Jan & Freddies Brasserie was very good for tasty food and friendly service. The Laughing Monk was a very good eating place and very pleasant. The castle Hotel was lovely for cream teas and lovely views. For good old fish and chips ‘The Rock Fish’ was also good. We also had a nice meal at Taylors with good service.
D. Scolding, J Goodhead and their lovely wives.

Superb accommodation, made to feel very much at home, fantastic setting in countryside and wonderful hosts. Thank you so much. We would highly recommend the ‘Round Robin’ trip from Dartmouth, Totnes, Paignton and back to Dartmouth. And Paignton Zoo an excellent day out for young or old!

We just love it here at Hillfields, high standards abound. It’s like home from home now after our fourth visit! We visited Tuckers Maltings this visit and would recommend it as a rainy day excursion. Interesting and informative guide with a sample of beer included.

Have just had 4 gorgeous days at Hillfield - not long enough by a long way. Great cottage with fab views in a lovely setting. Well done Hillfield team!

(Court Cottage) 9th May
Your accommodation is brilliant; all of the finishes and equipment are of a very high standard. The outside areas are also very high quality and well maintained. If we were to find one negative it is the towels could be thicker, but that is only a very minor point. We have enjoyed Riverford Field Kitchen and Rockfish in Dartmouth.

Hillfields is excellent in all aspects. We will certainly be back! Woodlands leisure Park was very good. We had poor service at Rock Salt Café Bistro.

Another relaxing break. We were given a very warm welcome and made to feel at home immediately. The cottage is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. We’ll be back to our ‘second home’ very soon! We enjoyed Coleton Fishacre gardens-masses of bluebells and spring flowers. Looking great! The tea shop is now run by the National Trust. Fruit Scones and Coffee excellent. Start Bay Inn, Torcross ~ delicious selection of fresh fish at sensible prices. Prompt service and welcoming. A wide range of wild flowers in meadows along the riverside path at Dartington Hall ~ free!

We had great food and service at the Station Restaurant in Dartmouth. We have had a very comfortable and relaxing stay in Terrace Apartment. We have found everything we have needed especially with a young baby. We will definitely consider returning to Hillfields in the future as it is an excellent location for young children. Michael and Caroline have been very helpful and friendly.

(Coachman’s Cottage) 16th April.
Great location and facilities. Mike and Caroline have been very welcoming and helpful. The information folders are very useful and extensive. We’ll certainly look to return, maybe with a group of friends. The playground has been used daily by our kids. Very family friendly. Pennywell was great for my 3 year old. The hour long cruise up the river was ideal for a short sightseeing tour. But we found the Park & Ride for Dartmouth rather pricey.

Excellent stay-first rate, comfortable accommodation. We wanted for nothing! We’ve visited before (a few years ago) and have been impressed that the high standards have been maintained. We enjoyed a memorable meal at the Normandy Arms pub in Blackawton. We would heartily recommend it to others.

We went to Hillfield in the Winter, And left there in the Spring.
The weather wet upon arrival, but sunny by the next.
And with the sun now shining, and springtime in the air.
What prettier place for all to stay, at this busy time of year.
The staff so warm and friendly, like the surroundings all around.
Will make your stay a happy one, as they flit around the grounds.
You'll see Terry on his tractor, and Dave the painter too.
A cleaning team moving around, and mum Edwina too.
Of course you'll all meet Caroline, and Michael the leaders of the pack.
And with smiling faces all of them, they'd like you to come back.
So next time when your fed up of the winter, and all the sleet and snow.
Hillfield is always like summer, what ever time you go.
What more can we say about our time at Hillfields, once again outstanding.
Even the Moon put on a show. As for what to add, Why changed what's not broken.
Would Highly recommend Ashby's Easy Stores for every thing from fishing to
surfing. www.ashbysonline.co.uk.

Our stay at Hillfields exceeded our expectations. We’ve always endured difficult holidays in the last few years with small children who do not sleep well. But this is the first time we can say that we’re sad to go home. I’m sure Alfresco’s gets a lot of recommendations as it rightly should but I would also recommend the Bayards Cove Inn down near to the lower ferry. It’s very good for children as well. We also enjoyed Pennywell Farm, Paignton Zoo and the Aquarium at Plymouth.

(Coachman’s Cottage) 26th March
Another wonderful experience and this year Caroline and Michael organised beautiful weather. The accommodation up to the very high standard we have had before. We have obviously become Ladies who like to visit the past and then partake of very nice refreshments. All our good intentions to explore the Salcombe area to no avail as always attracted back to Hillfields delights and particularly the Hot Tub!! Very good take-away from the Taj Mahal, Dartmouth and a sumptuous meal at the Dartmouth Apprentice. Last time we went to Greenways and this year we visited Coleton Fishacre and both well worth the visit. Unfortunately didn't have time to visit the boys at the Singing Kettle this time but next year beckons. Hillfields is very special and so lucky to have discovered it. Thank you Caroline and Michael. Have a wonderful Spring and love to you all.

We had a great stay in the Juliet Apartment. Very clean and modern five star accommodation and facilities. A very relaxing and enjoyable break. Thank you Mike and Caroline for your wonderful hospitality. We visited Paignton Zoo which was enjoyable and received a discount due to the vouchers you gave us. We also enjoyed crazy golf in Paignton.

(Keepers Cottage) 18th February.
It was great to come back to Hillfields! The property was of a high standard and offered us everything we might need once again. Nice attention to detail too. The 40th balloon for Sam was very much appreciated and loved by the kids! We enjoyed excellent food and service from The Laughing Monk. The Dart Cage provided friendly service and good food. And the newly opened Lazy Cow café at Modbury (not the most enticing looking place from the outside) was great once inside, with friendly, helpful service and excellent food. She let us create our own Panini’s from all of her ingredients and stayed open for us way beyond when she should have. The South East Asia takeaway in Kingsbridge had a great menu and good food.

The Hillfield Newsletter reminded that I have not emailed you to thank you both for our New Year's break. As always, our trip to Court Cottages was everything we hoped for, relaxing, warm and cosy with everything we needed available in the cottage. Despite being New Year and lots of the properties occupied we still felt like there was no one else around! We love the peace and tranquillity of Hillfield and never really want to leave. Thank you both once again for the 'extra night' made all the difference and we were able to make it to Alf's before closing on Tuesday. We look forward to returning later in the year.
