Dear Caroline & Michael
We have had another wonderful week here, despite some rainy days. The cottage is incredibly well appointed and luxurious; now where else we stay quite measures up! Looking forward to coming back. We had a wonderful meal at the Rockfish on South Embankment. Service was a bit haphazard at times but that is possibly because the restaurant is very new. Also Trish Thomas Jewelry on Foss Street. Trish kindly made a bracelet I bought from her last year smaller for me at no charge.
Mrs Palmer
(Court Cottage). 24th July
We stayed in a Keepers Cottage and we were very pleased with the accommodation. It was lovely and peaceful and our little boy loved the play area! Caroline & Michael were very friendly and gave us any info we needed or assistance required. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it to our friends! We would also definitely come back! We went to Woodlands Leisure Park with our 2 year old and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a must for those with children of all ages and well worth the cost! We also visited Pennywell Farm and had a great time there, especially good for your children.

The stay was really beautiful and the cottage was superb, the best we have stayed in so far! We were a little unlucky with the weather but that is something that can’t be influenced. What you really need is a fresh bread service for the guests (croissants e.g.) Fast Rabbit Farm was very disappointing and not worth-while.
Ros Family
(Keepers Cottage)24th July
Very clean accommodation. Helpful service. House has all that is required and is very well set out with plenty of room. Most shops and Cafes were satisfactory.
Mr & Mrs Shand & family.
(Court Lodge) 23rd July
We had a very enjoyable stay. There are no instructions for the oven. A later check-out time (eg 11.00) would be better. Seabreeze:- Their teas are excellent but they no longer do cycle hire. The Rockfish in Dartmouth:- Excellent fish and chips on two occasions. The Forces Tavern: - Very poor Italian meal

(Keepers Cottage)23rd July
Hillfield had been recommended by friends. We would have no hesitation in passing on our praises of Hillfields to others. Accommodation was spotless, a real home from home. You couldn’t ask for anything else in the property. A warm welcome to Hillfield and the bottle of wine was a nice touch. The whole family enjoyed their stay at Hillfield and would come back. An indoor swimming pool would be wonderful when the economic climate allows.
Evelyn & Philip Thomas & Family
(Keepers Cottage)23rd July.
Excellent accommodation at Hillfields, good facilities and friendly welcome. The Anchorstone Café at Dittisham served really good food with a fantastic view. The Rockfish in Dartmouth-good food, small portions and poor service. We didn’t get what we ordered!

(Juliet Apartment) 23rd July
We have had a lovely week at Hillfield. Great accommodation, very well equipped. Memory Foam mattresses take a bit of getting used to and a BBQ rather than a George Foreman grill would be better on the Balcony. (note from Caroline. Due to the BBQ being on the balcony with wooden decking on Vantage Point an Electric BBQ is the safest option) We had a meal at the Sportsman’s Arms. Blackpool Sands great as always. We also managed to get to the Wild Fire Bistro at the Dart Marina and the Laughing Monk-both very good. Also a very friendly welcome at Jan & Freddie’s.

(Vantage Point) 23rd July.
The cottage was fab in every way. Really good quality, every piece of equipment imaginable, lots of luxuries-whirlpool, surround sound, speakers in the bathrooms, tennis court. Totally amazing-loved it! The Rockfish restaurant in Dartmouth was superb. Excellent food, good friendly service and good environment. Bigbury-On-Sea great!
Linda McLachlan
(Keepers Cottage)23rd July
A thoroughly enjoyable stay thank you. The cottage was very comfortable and tastefully done. The children particularly enjoyed the playground and tennis. We look forward to coming again and hopefully seeing the next phase of the development completed. An indoor pool or heated pool would be advantageous and also a games room perhaps? Otherwise all fantastic and a great location.

(Court Cottage).22nd July
We hade a really enjoyable holiday and were made to feel very welcome. The cottage was very clean and very well equipped. We made good use of the swimming pool and the tennis court.

(Keepers Cottage) 29th July.
The Keepers Cottage was very comfortable which was great especially as the weather was not perfect. The advice from everyone was very useful i.e. where to eat and road conditions. Everywhere inside the cottage was lovely and clean with lovely clean bedding. Caroline & Mike very pleasant hosts. Thanks. We enjoyed good fish and chips at the Sloping Deck in Dartmouth. They had a very variable menu and was reasonably priced. Very clean with pleasant staff and a beautiful selection of cakes. We also had a reasonably priced carvery at the Sportsman’s Arms on Sunday which was good value. The Singing Kettle was very cozy and provided good service. The Station Restaurant in Dartmouth seemed good value for money and the service was quick and efficient. The Yacht Club in Plymouth was nice and you can look out over the sea while eating your meal. The Sainsbury’s in Dartmouth was very useful also.

(Keepers Cottage) 17th July.
Thanks again for a lovely relaxing holiday, despite the weather! Cottage immaculate as usual. Improvements / additions appreciated. Can’t wait to come back in September. The Church House Inn at Stokenham- excellent fish and chips, crispy light batter, generous portions. Very good value and prompt service. The Rockfish- welcome was good and so was the fish. Prompt friendly service although drinks were expensive. The Singing Kettle- fresh coffee and cakes very large!

Our Property was excellent and exceeded our expectations, clean and a very high standard. A great tennis court. Michael, Caroline & Edwina thank you. The Rock Fish was excellent.

(Gardeners Cottage) 16th July.
Very friendly and welcoming. Cottages a little smaller than they seemed on the website but not too small to be uncomfortable. All working amenities, iron, hover and dishwasher e.t.c. If Hillfields were responsible for the weather it would have been a perfect holiday! We had a delivery from Riverford. Wonderful food. We had a vegetable basket plus the BBQ box. So much food we couldn’t finish it all. Great Organic food. Very helpful company. Very highly recommended. The jam was divine. The Floating Bridge restaurant- lovely food.
Miss Katie Applegarth
(Keepers Cottage)16th July.
We had a terrific stay-met our expectations-not easy for 6! We had an excellent stay and Vantage Point was very well appointed.

A very enjoyable 3rd visit in first class accommodation. Caroline & Michael run Hillfields to an extremely high standard - everything catered for and nothing too much trouble.
Sue and Derrick Woolhouse
(Juliet Apartment) 16th July
The standard of accommodation was much higher than we could have possibly expected. All the little extra touches just made it even more special. The play area was fantastic too - the kids loved it and made lots of friends which ensured they had a great holiday too. We had a wonderful meal at Rockfish but the best meal was definitely at the Forces Tavern. The food was incredible and so was the service - we could not believe how reasonable the prices were.
Kirsty & Alan. Brown
(Court Cottage) 15th July
Loved it! A real home from home. Warm, comfortable and safe for the children. We enjoyed a meal at the Sportsman’s Arms. Super meal, great value, very family friendly and board games available.
Mrs Marshall
(Keepers Cottage) 15th July.
Hillfield has the best standard of self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in! Thank you. Your attention to detail is incredible. We would recommend the Venus beach Café - Blackpool sands. And the Kingsbridge farmers market a great way to get your local produce at the start of your holiday. Note from Caroline. The Kingsbridge Farmers Market is held on the first and third Saturday in the month. Dartmouth Farmers Market is the 2nd Saturday in the month.
Mrs Taylor.
(Keepers Cottage) 9th July.
Excellent accommodation. Very clean and comfortable. Will certainly recommend to family and friends. We would recommend Kendrick’s and the New Angel in Dartmouth but was disappointed with The Start Bay Inn. It was just too frantic.
Susan & Martin Whitehead.
(Juliet Apartment) 9th July.
Another lovely week. Congratulations on the new additions to the site and I hope that you will one day be able to achieve your full dream. Please be aware that on car parks at Torcross (and probably all others under the same council) if you arrive before 6pm (when overnight parking starts) any ticket purchased will only last until 6pm. Even if you pay for 2 hours at 5.55pm!
Mr Yates.
(Gardeners Cottage) . 9th July
Fantastic location, great accommodation and the ‘icing on the cake’ were the lovely owners who were very welcoming and did all they could to help and make your stay a very pleasant one. They deserve 11/10! We certainly hope to return.

Our stay at Hillfields was very relaxing. The layout of the cottages allowed for privacy and peaceful environment. Keepers Cottage was well equipped. Very nice extra touches include dishwasher tablets, towels, bin bags e.t.c.

We have stayed at Hillfields four times in the last 14 months and we feel it is a real home from home. Michael & Caroline are extremely friendly and we absolutely love the whole area J we enjoyed great pasties at Pesto and very pleasant staff at Crew & Co.

(Seale Apartment) 25th April
This place is fantastic. We stayed in a Court Cottage (No2) and it was simply lovely. New kitchen, freeview TV, broadband access, comfy beds and lots for our little girl to do within 2 mins ! I cannot praise this place enough as this is one of very few Uk holidays I have ever had and we were very impressed. Excellent location to visit places like Dartmouth (Creperie there is fab), Salcombe (go to South Sands beach less crowded and have lunch or dinner at South Sands hotel), Paignton for the Zoo, the Tseam railway from Kingswear (lower ferry from Dartmouth). If they were selling the place we stayed in I would buy it - that's how lovely we thought it was. Well done to the owners and see you very very soon !

(Keepers Cottage) 2nd July
Beautiful location and immaculately kept properties. We stayed in Keepers Cottage 2 which was perfect for our needs. It is furnished/decorated to a very high standard and very clean. We would definitely recommend Hillfields to friends visiting Devon. Pennywell Farm was an excellent place to take our toddler. As well as feeding and touching the animals there were other activities suitable for his age group-trampoline, bouncy castle, and mini train ride. We were impressed with the beach at Bigbury on Sea- very beautiful.

(Gamekeepers Cottage) 25th June
A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Hillfields is an extensive complex that is beautifully maintained and a credit to the owners. We will definitely revisit to take advantage of the quiet, peaceful and rustic surroundings. With out exception the Castle Hotel Restaurant was the key highlight to our visit to Dartmouth. The service and standard of food was first class which in comparison to some of the ‘Michelin’ priced restaurants was excellent value!
Derek & Karen Edmonds
(Juliet Apartment) 25th June
Another fantastic week at Hillfield in Court Cottage 1. The accommodation was again very clean and well equipped. We really look forward to returning for another relaxing holiday. Thank you. The Floating Bridge Inn Sunday roast was fantastic. Excellent produce, good sized portions and delicious.

Hillfields is in such a lovely peaceful setting. Great that there are so many things to do nearby. Furthest venture 16 miles! Apartment was like home from home, spacious, modern with all the appliances you could need. Very quick and helpful when needed when things didn’t work. Bottle of wine a lovely touch. Blackpool Sands- lovely food at the Venus Café. Great idea to have sandpits for the kids in the shingle beach. Woodlands Leisure Park. Great day out. Lots of play areas for toddlers. Pennywell farm- staff very friendly and helpful. Lots to keep a toddler occupied from feeding the animals, train ride and play areas.
Mark, Karen & Harry Finch.
(Terrace Apartment) 19th June
Very comfortable accommodation, impressive amount of kitchen equipment. The bottles of wine were a nice touch and very quaffable. Everything was spotlessly clean and we would recommend Hillfields as an ideal holiday destination. Upstairs restaurant at the Royal Castle Hotel Dartmouth- very good food and service, reasonable prices. Bar food not bad either. Laughing Monk at Stete excellent food although a limited menu. Paignton Zoo, well worth the entry fee, a good day out for all ages.
The Hyde party.

A very easy holiday with ages 1-80+ Hot tub a real bonus and used often. Lovely to have a cafeteria –a little thing but makes a big difference! Very comfortable living inside and out, the garden served us well. Venus beach Cafes- particularly Blackpool Sands. Food good quality and good pricing. The Winking Prawn Northsands Salcombe. Lovely setting and very helpful and friendly. Alfresco’s in Dartmouth good for breakfast open until 2pm. Woodlands Leisure Park is great.

Lovely place with excellent facilities. The tennis court was used and very good. We were disappointed the swimming pool was closed as it was advertised as open from May. Hillfield is situated in a lovely spot and ideal for visiting the beautiful surrounding area in the South Excellent café next to Dittisham pontoon with lovely views. Great food and friendly welcome at Hunters Arms Cornworthy. The pub at Tuckenhay overlooking the river, lovely spot, child friendly, good food.
(Note from Caroline. Our website says the pool is open from June to September but the Hillfield brochure says from May to September. It normally reads from the end of May to September. Sorry our error! We did open the pool a week early because the weather was lovely.)

Caroline & Michael are great hosts and we will be back again to try out another property. We had a lovely meal in the Dartmouth Apprentice. Great service but not very busy. Very enjoyable stay, location is great, would come and stay again. Paignton Zoo was very good. And Woodlands Leisure Park was very good value and enough for the children to do in wet weather.

(Gardeners Cottage) 19th February
I was nervous of self catering not having done it before. I was really surprised how clean and nice it was. It was just like staying in a 5* hotel room. Beds were really comfortable, sheets and towels were crisp and white and lovely. China looked like new. Facilities excellent. A nice meal at the Laughing Monk, but not great if you have fussy children. Food was excellent for adults but the pasta was too oily- however when Laura didn’t eat it they did not charge for it. This was a nice touch as they hand made the pasta and grated the cheese especially for her! A shame he added the butter before serving!

We had a wonderful home from home stay again! It was lovely to see you all. Thanks for making us feel so welcome in ‘Our holiday home’ as Finlay calls it! We had a lovely meal at Kendrick’s one evening. Also the Wild Fire Bistro at the Dart Marina was good as usual. We also enjoyed a day out at Woodlands but only part of it was open. It had a good pets area. There are lots of hills and slopes- not good for the less able.

Excellent accommodation, spotlessly clean and warm. Extremely high standard of fixtures and fittings, great value for a weekend. We have really enjoyed both our visits. Thank you!
The Fortescue Arms in East Allington has a good restaurant-but perhaps a little expensive. Great for couples but would be costly for a family.

A poem by Stephen.
The evenings draw in, the weather starting to change,
But now the lanes are quiet and you can move more freely again.
At night Hillfields welcomes you to warm and cosy homes,
Before refreshed tomorrow, South Hams you roam!
Very enjoyable off season stay. We would definitely return on our own and with family to your comfortable cottages. Great little play area for children.

(Coachman’s Cottage) 5th November.
Having recently returned from Hillfield and booked our third visit for next year, I can’t recommend it enough. We are a group of ‘women of a certain age’ that is ranging from 37 to 47 who just love a weekend away from our husbands and children and have found in Hillfield our perfect retreat. We stay in Court Lodge which is a beautifully designed property that actually sleeps 12 but we are happy to have 6 in it as we like to spread out! It is perfect for lounging around eating and drinking in our pyjamas, all the things we don’t (usually) do at home. We spend our evenings enjoying the stars with a cocktail or two in the hot tub before settling down for dinner. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with an amazing coastline to explore, whatever the weather. The small seaside towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe are perfect for a bit of shopping and the obligatory coffee stops that we need to do! We can’t wait to return next year.

Many thanks for a fabulous stay, even the weather didn't manage to spoil it. Everything about it was excellent, except the weather of course, but hey it is October !!!! The cottage was spotless, so comfortable, I could rant on all evening. Sorry but we couldn't find the re-cycling station, that may have been because my hubby was more interested in the football results, than listening to your briefing. Thanks again, hope to see you again soon.

A very big thank you from all our extended family for a most enjoyable holiday in your “Valley View” property, this was ideal accommodation in a wonderful serene setting. I was so pleased to have found the Hillfield Web Site to organise the holiday. The High Standard of Accommodation, Furnishings & Equipment made a homely and exciting start to everyone’s holiday. The Hot Tub was a huge success and shopping facilities for every day provisions were ideally located literally minutes away. The local attractions are numerous and the scenery just beautiful making it a pleasure to holiday in such a lovely part of our Country. It is our intention to visit Hillfield again as soon as we all can. We had a very interesting day out on the South Devon Railway. Buckfastleigh – Totness the Stationmaster at Buckfastleigh and the Ticket inspector on the train were most accommodating with reference to my disability you could not wish for better service.

Excellent accommodation and we will return again one day! Really enjoyed the modern features and gadgets. The perfect accommodation in the perfect location. We will never forget our honeymoon at Hillfields. We would recommend the
Hunters Lodge at Cornworthy- great food, Also the
Queens Arms at Slapton.
The Round Robin tour was a very enjoyable day out and we had great food at the
Church House Inn at Churchstow.

We have very much enjoyed our week in Court Cottage, in lovely accommodation and beautiful weather; Michael Caroline & Edwina have been most helpful. We have eaten out at the
Waterman’s Arms in Ashprington, a super spot by the river, service and food very good. Also liked the food and surroundings at the
Green Dragon Stoke Fleming, lovely old pub and good value for money.
The Laughing Monk at Strete also good.
Alf Resco’s in Dartmouth, friendly fun place for breakfast and drinks in the evening. We walked to Blackpool Sands and back. It takes about an hour each way as long as you don’t get lost!

Fantastic Hen weekend. Property exactly as described-very helpful intro to facilities and property. Very friendly staff. We will definitely be back. We had a very nice meal in the
Station Restaurant in Dartmouth and
Kendrick’s Restaurant was lovely and we had excellent service.

Our third visit and we will be back. Always enjoy our stay here. Accommodation excellent-clean and very well equipped. Beautiful location, friendly hosts. Loved the new play park- well at least Hannah did! Excellent food at the
Floating Bridge Pub in Dartmouth. Surprisingly good food and service at the
Sportsman’s Arms. It has recently changed hands and is now very good and especially family friendly.

Excellent quality of accommodation with plenty of space. The children’s area was very good. The information folders were very useful as a guide. We can recommend the quality of the food at

We loved it! What a fantastic development you have here. You have thought of everything and the properties are wonderful. We will certainly be recommending Hillfield to our friends and really look forward to returning soon. Thank you!
Dartington Cider Press -great shops with some really unusual products for the home and a fantastic toy shop. Great places to eat.
Paignton Zoo is worth a visit. And
North Sands at Salcombe- beautiful sandy beach and very clean.

The accommodation and facilities are quite excellent. We really enjoyed our stay. Caroline and Michael were very helpful and friendly. We would recommend it to anybody wanting to holiday in South Devon.
Torquay’s Harvester was very good and the staff were excellent. And the local shops in Salcombe were good and the staff were friendly.

A very nice apartment, especially the spa bath and the music in the bathroom. We enjoyed the
Pasta & Pizza bar- Market street Plymouth. Very nice food and made welcome with a baby. Reasonably priced.

Excellent accommodation and site. We enjoyed it all very much. Will recommend and hopefully return.
(Keepers Cottage) 2nd July
On arrival we were welcomed as if we were friends or family. Cottages were superb, everything you wanted down to the kitchen sink! Weather was superb, as were Michael and Caroline. The only bad point was we had to go home!
The Garden House, Buckland Monachorum, Yelverton, PL20 7LQ. With out visiting, it is hard to describe these gardens but when we visited on 24th June they were superb. If you do visit allow at least 4 hours. The only negative point is it’s not for the infirm or disabled.

We had a lovely holiday and will be recommending Hillfields to friends and family. Thomas has loved the playground and facilities. The accommodation has been very comfortable and home from home. We had a good meal at the
Sportsman’s Arms ideal for children with the carvery, no waiting for food to come.

Thank you for an amazing stay! From the luxurious cottage to the chilled ‘Hillfield’ wine. The perfect holiday in every way! Recommends the

We really enjoyed our stay. Apartment was very comfortable with everything we needed to feel at home. We will be back in the future. Thanks Michael and Caroline for making us welcome and suggestions where to eat etc. Also enjoyed the tennis court. Food at the
Laughing Monk was good value for a restaurant, practically if you go for the early bird menu. It is well worth a visit. Also the
Cricket Inn at Beesands- worth the drive.
Buckfast Abbey was worth a visit if for nothing else than the stained glass window.

We’ve had a wonderful week, thank you! The cottage is just lovely, a real home from home and you’ve stocked it very thoughtfully, especially with baby kit. We’ve been made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and we look forward to coming back soon.
Trish Thomas Jewellery in Foss Street Dartmouth. Made me a beautiful semi-precious bracelet in an afternoon for a great price.
Dart Explorer Harbour Cruise, witty and interesting commentary and helpful and courteous crew.
Start Bay Inn, Torcross-great seafood by the waters edge.

(Court Cottage) 26th June
We have enjoyed our stay-very peaceful, good location, good facilities, clean and modern cottages. Lots of information on local amenities/attractions. T.V set up was too complex to master for only a weeks stay-would have preferred something more basic. Suggests some plastic cups and plates and knives, forks and spoons for children. ( reply from Caroline: - we are looking into this as it is a good suggestion and it has been mentioned a few times.
Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway highly recommended as well as
Start Point Lighthouse tour. We would also recommend the
Laughing Monk at Strete- very accommodating for young children.
Goodrington Sands was very good for families (great sand, rock pools and facilities)
Woodlands Leisure Park also good.

A wonderful holiday apartment, so pleased we found you. The Terrace apartment was perfect for my husband and our 18month old son, who enjoyed his breakfast and dinner out on the terrace. We love the décor and high quality finish in each room. It felt more like a hotel than a holiday apartment. We look forward to returning and will definitely recommend to friends and family. We would recommend taking the
Greenway Ferry from Dartmouth to visit the National Trust
Greenway House and Gardens. The service was great and the staff were really friendly. It was a really enjoyable day out.

You know how the second time you visit anywhere it’s never quite the same. However Hillfield gets better and better! Very well appointed accommodation in an idyllic corner of Devon.
The Harbour Cruise. Very informative. The commentary is excellent and funny. Interesting day out at
Cockington Hall. Pity there was no cricket match on the day we chose to go.
Laughing Monk for an excellent evening meal. For water sports try
Bantham or
Salcombe, North & South Sands etc etc etc.
